Serving the special education students, families, service providers and member school districts of Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit 19 |

The Local Task Force was set up by a court order in 1972 to assist in improving education for all school-age persons with mental retardation. In 1975, the Right to Education was extended by state regulations to include learning disabilities, physical handicaps, emotional difficulties and hearing, visual, speech, and language impairment. Members of the local task force include parents of children in special education, educators, advocates and service providers of children with special needs, and concerned citizens. The task force is required to have 51 percent parent-consumer membership. We encourage everyone with an interest in the free and appropriate public education of students with special needs to become an active and involved member of the local task force. Working together, we will strive to improve, strengthen, expand, and monitor special education programs and services for all school-aged children with special needs. Local Task Force meetings are held at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of every month, September through June. Check our calendar for meeting locations and the list of scheduled presenters/topics. | History of the Local Task Force |
The Right to Education Task Force was created in 1972 as part of the P.A.R.C Consent Agreement that provided for a free, appropriate public education for children with mental retardation. In 1975, the Right to Education was extended by state regulations to include learning disabilities, physical handicaps, emotional difficulties and hearing, visual, speech, and language impairment. Membership in the Local Task Force is determined at the local level, with a 51% majority of parents/consumers required. Each LTF must have representatives from the Intermediate Unit, the local MH/MR (Mental Health/Mental Retardation Office), the local Arc, school districts, and parents/consumers. LTF’s are actively involved with programs and services for students with disabilities in all school districts across the state and follow procedures outlined in the handbook developed by the State Task Force. |

LOCAL TASK FORCE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 6.3.1 Make recommendations that assist in improving, strengthening, expanding and 6.3.2 Advocates for school-aged persons and carries out the letter and spirit of the Right 6.3.3 Follows the policies, procedures and guidelines outlined by the State Task Force. 6.3.4 Cooperates with direct service provider agencies, both public and private, in 6.3.5 Refers problems identified locally to approved private agency or to the State Task 6.3.6 Recommendations to the STF or other approved private groups concerning 6.3.7.
