Non-Public/Pupil Services
Act 89
Pennsylvania Act 89 mandates certain supplemental services to nonpublic school children at no cost to their parents. Any student enrolled in a non-public school approved by the Commonwealth is eligible to receive services under Act 89, if the school administrator requests these services. Special services provided by the state and offered through NEIU include: *Remedial Reading, *Remedial Math,*Psychological Services, *Secondary Guidance and Counseling, *Elementary Guidance and Counseling and *Standardized Testing.
Title V
The Education Consolidation and Improvement Act (ECIA) was enacted by the Federal Government to provide specified services to students enrolled in private, nonprofit schools. In Pennsylvania the states Intermediate Units provide these services. Specific services available to nonpublic schools through Title V include the purchase of *Library Books, *Audio Visual Equipment, *Computer Hardware and Software' and *Instructional Materials.
Title II A
This program is designed to provide money to be directed to professional staff development for teachers and principals in the non-public schools.
Title II D
This program is a grant that focuses on technology in the following areas: staff development, purchasing of computer hardware for student utilization and purchase of software to support computers and targeted needs of schools.
Special Education Transportation
Coordination and supervision of special education transportation at the request of local school districts.
Safe and Drug Free Schools Act
Provides funding for drug prevention programs in the Intermediate Units nonpublic schools.
Adult Basic Education Programs
The Intermediate Unit acts as the LEA for Clarks Summit State Hospital and Farview State Hospital for their adult basic education programs.
Bus Driver Training
The Intermediate Unit coordinates and provides technical assistance for the entire bus driver training programs in the NEIU service area. The Intermediate Unit also provides courses directly to area drivers in bus safety and CDL training in addition to coordinating CDL testing programs.
Guidance/School Nurse Professional Development
The Intermediate Unit provides in-service programs for Guidance Counselors and School Nurses on relevant topics such as School Law, Drug Abuse, Childhood Diseases, and State Guidelines.
