Services for Schools |
| Experienced Network Technicians
from the Management Information Systems (MIS) are available to assist
schools in the consultation, design and installation of local area
networks and to offer support for wide-area networks. MIS technicians
specialize in the installation of wire and network peripherals. |

Monitoring and Technical Services |
| MIS Network Specialists
attend regular continuing education classes in order to support cross-platform
network topologies for schools. Specialists are available to diagnose
network performance and to offer recommendations. Networks can be monitored
within the school district or remotely from the Intermediate Unit. |
| Satellite
Television Downlink and Teleconferencing Services |
| NEIU has the ability to provide satellite
connections from its location for schools to participate in teleconferences
and educational programming. Educational programs can be taped for
use by schools within the constraints of the Federal Copyright Law. |
| Linking
Technology to Classroom Instruction |
| Technology training funded through the
Aligning Curriculum to the Standards in Pennsylvania (ACTS) is available
at the Intermediate Unit. Trainers conduct workshops for electronic
presentation, database and web quests. Support and training is available
for the IC Tracker Curriculum Mapping Software. |
| Video
on Demand |
| NEIU has partnered with WVIA to provide
video streaming to schools This agreement offers more than 14,000,
K-12 core-curriculum, Pennsylvania State Standards-based video clips,
lessons plans, and assessments in the following:
• Science
• Social Studies
• Math
• Language Arts
• Health
Training and support are available through the MIS Network.

Production Services |
| The MIS Network continues to provide
lamination, photo identification cards' video duplication, school calendars
and school logos on clothing. |
| Distance Learning |
| NEIU maintains a Swift Site II video
conferencing system allowing for connections to live video conferences
and educational programs. Technical support is available through MIS
for programming assistance. |
| Electronic Repair Services |
| The MIS
Network provides technical support for the repair and maintenance
of audio-visual equipment. Audio-visual
specialists are available to provide on-site support and training in
the implementation of technology in the classroom. |
| Internet Connection |
| NEIU provides a dedicated Internet connection
for district consortium members, as well as, maintaining a number of
services that provide email, web site hosting, web content filtering,
and domain name services. |
| Repair and Maintenance |
| The Network of Management Information
Systems offers a contractual service for the repair of all major brands
of electronic and mechanical typewriters. Trained technicians are dispatched
to the school location for evaluation and repair of broken equipment.
NEIU maintains an extensive inventory of parts and supplies to support
the needs of its member districts. |
| Technology Purchasing Services |
| This service assists school districts
with the acquisition of computer equipment, audio-visual equipment
and supplies. At the request of member schools, intermediate Unit 19
will research and present the most economical technology solutions.
Intermediate Unit representatives converse daily with local and national
providers to ensure the most recent products and pricing are available
to meet its requests. Orders can be placed through the Intermediate
Unit to be delivered and setup by qualified technicians. The school
district will be billed through the Intermediate Unit to recover the
costs acquiring products and services. |
| Microcomputer Repair |
| The Management Information Systems Network
offers an on call service for the repair and upgrade of all brands
of computers and peripherals. Trained specialists are available to
visit schools for the diagnosis and repair of hardware and software
problems. A large inventory of parts and an automated computer inventory
system are in place to ensure a quick turn around of computers and
peripherals in need of repair. |
| Technology
Coordinators Group |
| An active technology coordinators group
meets quarterly throughout the school year. The group works with NEIU
to collaborate on various projects, share concerns common to schools
and to increase the knowledge of school districts in the areas of instructional
technology. Among the events sponsored are workshops on the legal issues
with regard to classroom use of the Internet, a hands-on workshop on
the use of hand held computers, and workshops presented by Apple Computer
and Microsoft on various types of software and networking capabilities. |
| Technician in Residence |
| This program offers to district computer
specialists to assist in the daily maintenance and support of the school
technology environment. Offered as an on-site residence, support is
tailored to the individual needs of schools. This comprehensive program
is designed to provide professional technical resources at an optimum
value. |
| E-Rate Services |
| NEIU offers technical assistance in the
application process to apply for reimbursements through the Schools
and Libraries Division of the Universal Service Administrative Company.
This program allows affordable access to telecommunications services
for eligible school districts. Funded at a minimum of $2.25 billion
annually, the program provides discounts on telecommunications services,
Internet access and internal connections. NEIU offers a consortium
service, which applies for reimbursement, for all schools that participate
in its Internet program. |
| Graphic Arts: Design and Project Layout |
| NEIU offers school districts professional
graphic services through the assistance of its accomplished graphic
artists. The results are clear, sharp and attractive images for enhancing
the efficiency and professionalism of the school environment. |
| Color Printing |
| The MIS printing services can provide
full color imaging reproduction of photographic quality materials.
This includes color photos, brochures, small posters and overhead transparencies. |
| High Speed Copying |
| Quality black and white reproduction
of varying quantities can be produced by the use of a high-speed copier.
Materials can be collated, staple bound, book bound or coil bound.
Finished products are packaged and delivered to school districts through
the MIS weekly delivery service. |
| Photo Offset Print Shop |
| The MIS printing services can provide
monotone and two-color printing and reproduction. Professional letterhead,
envelopes, report cards and inter-district forms are some of the most
popular printing services provided. |
| MIS Courier Services |
| Each week, during the school year, an
MIS representative visits school Buildings within the geographic boundaries
of NEIU. The primary purpose of this service is to receive and distribute
mail and video materials. Additionally, printing requests and equipment
in need of service is transported to the NEIU offices. |
