Departments

Fiscal Department

The Fiscal Department is responsible for the management of all budgets under the NEIU umbrella. Totaling over $35 million dollars, the implementation of these funds play a major role in every facet of the Intermediate Unit and its member district operations.
Human Resources

The Department of Human Resources maintains records and follows policies set forth by the Northeastern Educational Board of Directors for all Professional and Non-Professional employees.

It assists other departments and school districts with possible candidates for employment. The Personnel Office also acts in the capacity of an informational conduit to other intermediate units and member districts.

Special Education
The Special Education Department provides services and programs to meet the needs of its twenty member school districts. These may be directly operated by the Intermediate Unit or may supplement existing district-operated special education programs.

Programs directly operated by the Intermediate Unit on a fee-for-service basis include: Multi-Handicapped, Life Skills and, Learning Support, Physical Support, Autistic Support, Speech/Language, Vision, and Hearing Support, and Special Vocational Support.

Supplementary services are provided to constituent school districts to enhance the delivery of special education programs.

These include: Child Accounting, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Psychological Services, Supervision, Technical Assistance, CSPD Support Orientation/Mobility, Case Management, Social Work Services and Nursing Services.

Early Intervention Programs and Services are furnished directly to eligible youngsters 3 to 5 years of age. These services, coupled with the programs for school-age youngsters and the Intermediate Unit’s commitment to extend district’s special education capabilities, have served to enhance educational opportunities that are available for all disabled youngsters in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Curriculum
The NEIU Curriculum Department provides curriculum, instruction and assessment services to the member school systems of IU 19. The Intermediate Unit provides a variety of services to improve staff development. These may include the assessment of needs and interests, help with the design of district staff development projects, and dissemination of information on educational research, including current findings related to leadership and learning.
Management Information Systems
The Management Information Systems Department provides member districts with various technical and support services and graphic arts and printing services. The MIS Department supplies the Intermediate Unit with downlink connections to satellites and a video conferencing system to access live video conferences and educational programs.
Non-Public/Pupil Personnel
The Pupil Personnel Department is responsible for the supervision of all non-public school programs including Act 89; Title VI; Title II; Safe and Drug Free Schools. Its scope of responsibilities includes the coordination of special education transportation, school bus driver training and professional development for school nurses and guidance counselors.
